Observe drainage before choosing. Bald cypress tolerates wet sites, while other trees need better-drained soil.
Plan for establishment
Protect the trunk, mulch without piling against it, and check soil moisture through dry periods. A newly planted tree needs care even if the species is drought-tolerant once established.
