Set a realistic height
A low flowering border and a tall year-round screen need different plants. Taller Encore azaleas can define a garden edge; they will not replace a tree-sized screen.
Think about winter
Evergreen foliage provides screening throughout the year. Deciduous trees can give summer shade while opening the view in winter.
Give each plant enough space
Crowding may look full sooner but creates maintenance problems later. Southern magnolia needs substantial space; it is not a narrow property-line solution.
Every yard has its own conditions. Start with sunlight, drainage, and mature size before choosing a plant.
